Met bijzondere belangstelling heb ik Uw column van vandaag, maandag 5 februari 2018 gelezen. Toevallig had ik net zo"n ontmoeting met een totale vreemde afgelopen zaterdagmiddag in de grocery afdeling van Walmart in de plaats Titusville onder de rook van Orlando,, Florida. Ik ben een Nederlander die daar woont, ondertussen genaturaliseerd US citizen, maar nog steeds met een geldig Nederlands paspoort. Ik duwde mijn winkelkar voor mij uit naar de kassa en vroeg vriendelijk aan een meneer die voor de doorgang stond of ik svp langs hem mocht gaan. De man was reuze vriendelijk en ging opzij, terwijl hij mij vroeg of ik misschien dacht dat ie NEE zou zeggen. Maar, zei hij, U bent veel groter dan ik, dus ik ga maar gauw opzij.Lachend zei ik: ik ben niet gewelddadig,, hoor. Toen zei die man, met ietwat somberder gezicht, dat hij lever kanker had. Nu ben ik zelf een kankerpatiënt met prostaat kanker. Ik ben 72 maar die man was pas 58 en ik had met hem te doen. Vond mijn eigen ziekte minder belangrijk omdat ik al veel langer geleefd had dan hij. Ik wenst hem het allerbeste, wat kon ik meer zeggen. Zomaar een ontmoeting met een lotgenoot, in de grocery van WalMart. Uw column vandaag vond ik heel goed. Overigens heb ik U een aantal jaren geleden ook een reactie gestuurd op een van Uw columns.
